Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find the most frequently asked questions I receive. If you have another question, please contact me.

Who do you teach?

I teach private piano lessons to children at the minimum age of five up to high-school. The starting age can be between five and seven, depending on the child's interest and maturity.

I specifically market to the homeschool community as I am a homeschool graduate, but I love to teach all kids no matter how they receive their education.

I do not teach adults at this time.

Do we need a piano?

The short answer is yes! All students will need an acoustic piano or weighted 88-key digital piano with a sustain pedal by their first lesson with me. If you have a piano, but you are unsure if it meets the requirements, please contact me.

Having a good-quality piano will greatly help your child to learn the concepts I will be teaching from the very beginning. There are important features missing on an inexpensive keyboard that will stunt the student's progress and overall musical development.

Do we need any materials (aside from a piano)?

Yes! You will need to obtain the Piano Adventures method books. I will advise you on which level to get based on your child's experience and provide you with an Amazon link to purchase it.

You will also need a metronome. There are free phone apps for it, or you are welcome to buy a physical one.

Can you teach neurodivergent children?

I am very experienced in teaching neurodivergent children; I've been doing it almost my whole life. As someone with ADHD who also has siblings with ADHD, autism, and dyslexia, and has taught multiple neurodivergent students, I have gained many skills in learning how to effectively work with all kinds of neurodivergent children!

However, whether or not a child is neurodivergent, every child is unique and learns in different ways. From the very first lesson, and as we continue lessons together, I adapt to their learning style and present lessons based on that.
